A Butterfly Lights Beside Us
A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam…
and for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world…
but then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all.

SOMEWHERE over the rainbow
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Look at the Stars
Look at the stars how they shine and glow,
Some of those stars shined a long time ago,
Still, they shine in
the evening skies,
Love, like starlight,
never dies.

I wrote your name in the sand
I wrote your name in the sand
but the waves washed it away,
I wrote your name on my hand
but I washed it the next day,
I wrote your name on a paper,
but I accidentally threw it away
I wrote your name in my heart
and forever it will stay.

Time for me to go now
Time for me to go now, I won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me & love me,
As you know I love you.
Time for me to go now, I won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
When all the world is sunset,
Just look for me & love me
And I’ll be close to you.

Time for me to go now
It won’t be forever, the day will come & then
My loving arms will hold you,
When we meet again.
Time for us to part now, we won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment and
All your whole life through
Just look for me & love me,
As you know I loved you.
Just wish me near to you
And I’ll be there with you
My Mom, she tells a lot of lies,
She never did before
But from now until she dies,
She’ll tell a whole lot more.
Ask my Mom how she is
And because she can’t explain,
She will tell a little lie
because she can’t describe the pain.
Ask my Mom how she is,
She’ll say, “I’m alright.”
If that’s the truth, then tell me,
why does she cry each night ?

My mum she tells a lot of lies
Ask my Mom how she is
She seems to cope so well,
She didn’t have a choice you see,
Nor the strength to yell.
Ask my Mom how she is,
“I’m fine, I’m well, I’m coping.”
For God’s sake Mom, just tell the truth,
Just say your heart is broken
She’ll love me all her life
I loved her all of mine.
But if you ask her how she is,
She’ll lie and say she’s fine.

I am here in heaven
I am here in Heaven
I cannot hug from here.
If she lies to you don’t listen
Hug her and hold her near.
On the day we meet again,
We’ll smile and I’ll be bold.
I’ll say,
“You’re lucky to get in here, Mom,
With all the lies you told!

Lost a child
If you know someone who
has lost a child and you’re
afraid to mention them
because you think you might
make them sad by reminding
them that they died, they
didn’t forget they died.
You’re not reminding them.
They say there is a reason
They say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way I feel,
For no-one knows the heartache,
That lies behind our smiles,
No-one knows how many times,
We have broken down and cried,
We want to tell you something,
So there won’t be any doubt,
You’re so wonderful to think of,
But so hard to be without.

Do not stand at my grave
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain,
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

A mother’s grief
You ask me how I’m feeling,
But do you really want to know?
The moment that I try to tell you,
You say you have to go.
How can I tell you,
What it’s like for me,
I’m haunted, I am broken,
You start squirming on your chair.
Because I am lonely,
You see, no one comes around.
I’ll take the words I want to say,
And quietly choke them down.

A mother’s Grief
I’m tired of pretending,
As my heart pounds in my chest,
I say things to make you comfortable,
But my soul, it finds no rest.
How can I tell you things,
That are too sad to be told,
Of the helplessness of holding a child,
Who in your arms grows cold.
Maybe you can tell me,
How should one behave,
Who’s had to follow their child’s casket,
Watched it perched above a grave.
A mother’s Grief
Everyone avoids me now,
Because they don’t know what to say,
They tell me ‘I’ll be there for you’
Then turn and walk away.
‘Call me if you need me now’
That’s what everyone said,
But how can I call you and
scream into the phone,
‘My God, my child is dead’.
No one will let me —
Say the words I need to say,
Why does a mother’s grief,
Scare everyone away?

A mother’s Grief
You cannot imagine,
What it was like for me that day,
To place a final kiss upon that box,
And have to walk away.
If you really love me,
And I believe you do,
If you really want to help me,
Here’s what I need from you.
Sit down beside me,
Reach out, and take my hand,
Say, ‘My friend I’ve come to listen,
I want to understand.’
Just hold my hand and listen,
That’s all you need to do,
And if by chance, I shed a tear,
It’s alright if you do too.

It has been said that time heals
It has been said that time heals all wounds.
I do not agree. The wounds remain.
In time, the mind, protecting its sanity,
covers them with scar tissue
and the pain lessens, but it is never gone.

The moment you left me
The moment that you left me,
My heart was split in two;
One side was filled with memories;
The other side died with you.
I often lay awake at night
When the world is fast asleep;
And take a walk down memory lane
With tears upon my cheek.
Remembering you is easy,
I do it every day;
But missing you is a heartache
That never goes away.
I hold you tightly within my heart
And there you will remain;
You see life has gone on without you,
But will never be the same.
A Father’s Grief
It must be very difficult
To be a man in grief,
Since ‘men don’t cry’ and ‘men are strong,’
No tears can bring relief.
It must be very difficult
To stand up to the test,
And field the calls and visitors
So she can get some rest.
They always ask if she’s alright
And what she’s going through.
But seldom take his hand and ask,
‘My friend, but how are you?

A father’s Grief
He hears her crying in the night
And thinks his heart will break.
He dries her tears and comforts her,
But ‘stays strong’ for her sake.
It must be very difficult
To start each day anew.
And try to be so very brave —
He lost his child too.

I remember you
The world may never notice
If a rosebud doesn’t bloom:
Or even pause to wonder if the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be
Touches the World in some small way
For all eternity.
The little ones we longed for
Were swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.
And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do
Every beating of my heart says
“I Remember You”

I heard your voice in the wind
I heard your voice in the wind today
And turned to see your face;
The warmth of the wind caressed me
As I stood silently in place.
I felt your touch in the sun today
As its warmth filled the sky;
I closed my eyes and for your embrace
And my spirit soared high.
I saw your eyes in the window pane
As I watched the falling rain;
It seemed as each raindrop fell
It quietly said your name.
I held you close in my heart today
It made me feel complete;
You may have died… but you are not gone
You will always be a part of me.
As long as the sun shines…
The wind blows…
The rain falls…
You will live on inside of me forever
For that is all my heart knows.
The mention of my child’s name
The mention of my child’s name may bring tears to my eyes,
but it never fails to bring music to my ears.
If you are really my friend, let me hear the beautiful music of his name.
It soothes my broken heart and sings to my soul.

Grief is just love with no place to go
Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love.
It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot.
All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes,
the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest.
Grief is just love with no place to go.

Wave of Light
We light our candles in the night,
Each tiny flame a gentle light.
For twins, for triplets, always near,
Forever loved, forever here.

always
We think about you always,
we talk about you still,
you have never been forgotten,
and you never will.
We hold you close within our hearts,
and there you will remain,
to walk with us throughout our lives
until we meet again.
Two Little Things
It could have been
2 little cuddles, cosy and warm
2 little uniforms, ready to be worn
2 little smiles coming down the stairs
2 little book bags lying on the chair
2 little lunchboxes filled with healthy snacks
2 little pairs of shoes, waiting on the mat
Instead I have
2 little pebbles with rainbows painted bright
2 little blue rings, I wear day and night
2 little gardens where yellow flowers bloom
2 little footprints, framed in our room
2 little blankets, the baby smell still there
2 little locks of soft silky hair
It doesn’t get better and it doesn’t go away
I just keep moving forward and find joy in every day
At times it feels too much, too painful, too sad,
But I’m just so very grateful for the time we had.
2 little robins, chirping in the trees
2 little feathers, floating on the breeze
2 little butterflies, never do they part
2 little stars, forever in my heart.

25 years
Charlie and Joshua, my identical twins,
Jessica and Samuel, their younger siblings.
It’s 25 years since you were both born,
Keeping your memory alive since my heart was torn.
A proud mum of 4, I love being called a twin mum,
It gives me pleasure and comfort to think what they would have become.
My precious twin boys, I loved holding you together,
It feels so right that you’re ‘together forever.’
I wish so much that you were here with me now,
I have survived the grief but not sure how.
I love them so much and miss them each day,
It wasn’t enough to hope and to pray.
I love to talk about them and say their names,
I have their photos around my house in many frames.
I have so many memories of the days you were alive,
Wishing and hoping you would survive and thrive.
You were both so tiny and fought to live,
It was so hard afterwards with all the love I had to give.
The journey of grief has been a difficult ride,
But I have had such great support by my side.
I am a different person because of the two of you,
I hope that you would be proud of all I do.
It’s all for you both and there is more to come,
Your footprints are forever on my heart
and I’ll forever be your mum.

Little SnowDrop
The world may never notice
If a Snowdrop doesn’t bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.
The little one we longed for
Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.
And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
For every beating of our hearts
Says that we love you.

My Footprints
These are my footprints, so perfect and so small.
These tiny footprints never touched the ground at all.
Not one tiny footprint, for now I have my wings.
These tiny footprints were meant for other things.
You will hear my tiny footprints, in the patter of the rain.
Gentle drops like angels’ tears, of joy and not from pain.
You will see my tiny footprints, in each butterflies’ lazy dance.
I’ll let you know I’m with you, if you give me just a chance.
You will see my tiny footprints, in the rustle of the leaves.
I will whisper names into the wind, and call each one that grieves.
Most of all, these tiny footprints, are found in mummy’s heart,
cause even though I’m gone now, we’ll never truly part.
27 weeks — Anna Wade
Week five I bled
Progesterone they said
Week six I was sick
It will be over quick
HG was extreme
I wished it was all a dream
Vomiting ten plus times a day
In bed I lay
When we found out you were twins
Our families had the biggest grins
Me and your Daddy where so excited
We couldn’t wait to be united
Week twelve ended in hospital dehydrated
Where I had almost collapsed and fainted
Six intravenous drips later
Had me feeling a little bit greater

27 weeks — Anna Wade
Week fifteen was a long wild ride
The unknown scans and tears we cried
Poole, Southampton, St. George’s too
Where we’d meet the whole Fetal medicine crew
TTTS stage one to stage three
Who knew we’d need such a degree
My pregnancy risk was extremely high
We thought we might have to say goodbye
Just get to week sixteen to have an operation
Wow that’s a crazy laser ablation
Week sixteen definitely took a big toll
But you succeeded and passed your goal
Friday Southampton scan was good,
Monday St George’s wait another week we could
This is the week we found out you are girls
I did pray you’d get your daddy’s brown curls
Each long day that did pass
Mummy wished it away so fast
Just so you girls would get stronger and bigger
Dreaming of you both bouncing around like tigger
The all day sickness was still so real
It really was a massive ordeal

27 weeks — Anna Wade
Week seventeen smells were insane
I wish everything could go away down the drain
Blankets over my nose during hospital visits
Counting down the hours until they became minutes
Walking back into that small consultation room
Not ever knowing if conversation would turn to gloom
But NO, Your brave you are two little fighters
Who defied all odds and did all-nighters
Kicking your mummy in her sore painful tummy
Sometimes it was just so funny
Crunching on bottles of freezing cold ice
Or just a bowl of extremely plain rice
Week eighteen your still both so small
But it was time for the professor to make the call
Mummy was so definitely scared
She felt extremely lost and underprepared
But this is what we had been preparing for
Even if we didn’t quite know what was in store
An injection straight in my back called a spinal
4 attempts it took for it to become final
Next came a crazy long thin laser
And a worrying sense of impending danger
Straight through my tummy to my placenta
Not quite what was on my agenda

27 weeks — Anna Wade
Surgery was done back to front
Because of how my placenta laid in my bump
We had a scan after 6 hours
You showed us you both had super powers
Both laid there strongly kicking
As the ultrasound tech finished clicking
Week nineteen to twenty four
I sat at home and waited,
not even answering the door
These weeks went by slow
But we were waiting for you to grow
Sickness finally started to ease
A massive steak and chips please
Acid reflux had begun
I thought the pain was almost done
Week twenty three oh so fun
Waiting for some normality in the sun
But You both had high blood flow
Taps wasn’t diagnosed cause that’s one low
Should we wait or should we go
Back to hospital with our bags In tow
27 weeks — Anna Wade
Week Twenty four was the safe spot
Even if you were still just a small dot
The hospital could try save you
Even if it meant months in NICU
Mummy was now so happy
Preparing everything even a nappy
Weeks twenty five to twenty six
Everything looked like it had begun to fix
Until they noticed your fluid had reduced
How could we give you such a boost
Should we come in for another scan
Consultant says no that’s not the plan
Week twenty seven
The one that sent you both to heaven
Your movement had begun to slow
It’s a mothers instinct just so you know
A trip to Poole maternity
Felt like an eternity
Multiple scans and Fetal heart traces
Meant we got to see your beautiful faces
A trip to Southampton later that night
We didn’t know you were having to fight

27 weeks — Anna Wade
Just pumping blood to try and stay alive
How that all changed the next day at five
2 hours it took to give us the news
Oh how it felt like a massive bruise
Our sweet Amelia hadn’t been given a chance
We knew she was in heaven having a dance
This is when I asked for a c section
I didn’t know the consultant would have such an objection
To save your identical twin sister
Aria came out without even a whimper
Fighting strong with almost no blood
The tears we cried could have started a flood
Watching our sweet Aria slipping away
To be with her sister In heaven later that next day
Our hearts are shattered and oh so broken
Not even one tiny word was spoken
We are reminded that the only positive thing
Is that you are up there celebrating with our king
Heaven is such a holy great place
We just wish we could see your beautiful face
To have and to hold you in your baby wraps
Not to be taken by that thing called TAPS.

As fireworks rise into the sky
As fireworks rise into the sky,
We see your light and wonder why.
For every sparkle, every flame,
We whisper softly each precious name.
Our twins and triplets –
together, their light remains.

Rainbow poem 1
The rain has passed, the colours show,
Two rainbows arch, and I just know,
You’re with me still, not lost, not gone,
Your love is here, it carries on.
Rainbow poem 2
Two rainbows stretch across the sky,
A quiet sign of love nearby.
Though you are gone, I feel you stay,
Forever with me, every day.

Rainbow poem 3
‘Two rainbows glow, the sky so wide,
A fleeting glimpse of love inside.
Though arms are empty, hearts still know,
Your love shines on in every glow.’

Autumn Poem for Twin & Triplet Loss
As Autumn leaves drift, soft and slow,
We feel the weight of love we know.
Two or three, yet always near,
Your presence whispers through the year.
The world grows quiet, skies turn gold,
But in our hearts, your names we hold.
Each little life, so deeply ours,
Forever part of who we are.
And as the candles soon will glow,
Together we remember so.
A gentle light, a love that stays,
Guiding us through autumn days.

Surviving Twin
One grew wings I cannot see,
One stays earthside here with me.
Yet both are written in my heart,
Two forever, never apart.
#survivingtwin
Surviving Triplets
Two grew wings I cannot see,
One stays earthside here with me.
Yet all are written in my heart,
Three forever, never apart.
#survivingtriplets

Surviving Triplets
One grew wings I cannot see,
Two stays earthside here with me.
Yet all are written in my heart,
Three forever, never apart.

Twin Loss
Two little lives, too soon to part,
Forever held within my heart.
Though silence lingers, love is true,
My sweetest twins, I carry you

Triplet Loss
Three little lives, too soon to part,
Forever held within my heart.
Though silence lingers, love is true,
My sweetest triplets, I carry you.
As Baby Loss Awareness Week Nears
Baby Loss Awareness Week draws near,
a time for love, remembrance, tears.
Each tiny light, each whispered name,
a flame that flickers just the same.
Together hearts in silence speak –
we hold them close, this precious week.

Footprints Poem for Twins & Triplets
Tiny footprints, side by side,
Love unmeasured, deep and wide.
Two or three, yet always one,
A bond that cannot be undone.
Each print rests upon our hearts,
A mark of love that never parts.
Though journeys differ, love will stay,
Guiding us along the way.
Together here, we say your names,
Your stories woven into frames.
For every step, both near and far,
Your footprints show us who you are.

When BLAW Feels Heavy
If BLAW feels heavy, that’s okay –
you can rest, drift far away.
No need to stand through every part;
you honour them within your heart.
Love doesn’t fade when you take space –
it waits with warmth, a soft embrace.

Butterflies Poem for Twins & Triplets
Butterflies drift in twos and threes,
Carried softly on the breeze.
Each one unique, yet bound together,
A bond of love that lasts forever.
Their colours dance, their wings take flight,
A gentle sign, a tender light.
Though we can’t hold them as we planned,
They rest forever in our hands.
So when the butterflies appear,
We speak your names and feel you near.
Twins, triplets – always ours to love,
Carried below, remembered above.
The WHite Pumpkin by Jennifer Giles
This is the story
Of a pumpkin of white
What is its place on this autumn night?
Amidst all the orange and colors of fall
It seems out of place, not belonging at all
But oh what a place, and oh what a story
You see, in its face lies the image of glory
Of babies so small, so incredibly tiny
Perfect in purpose, their souls shining brightly.
No less a baby, a child just the same
As one who was held and called by their name
Was my baby a he?
Or was she a she?
What would my child have grown up to be?
Yet bigger than questions and what ifs and whys
Is the comfort they feel when they look to the skies
For their hope is the truth that they so tightly cling
“I’ll know all the answers, understand everything
on the day that God hands my child back to me”

The WHite Pumpkin by Jennifer Giles
This pumpkin is for all these sweet angel friends
Whose parents all know this isn’t the end
And how they are doing
Tonight up in heaven
Is better than anything we could imagine
Though we’re missing our children
And we’re still on this side
Our hearts will continue to swell with pride
At the special, the wondrous, the out of place things
Like this white pumpkin, and the joy that it brings
A reminder that our children are more than alive
They are perfectly whole, all things are made right
Angel parents, I know there’s still tears to be shed
But I hope that this pumpkin brings peace instead
Our babies are promised forever in heaven
And that’s the best gift we could ever be given

26 years…
26 years ago, our beautiful twins arrived,
How we longed and wished that you had both survived.
A big part of our family both then and now,
We love you both dearly, we hope that you can tell.
26 years…
26 years, since we held you tight,
In a neonatal unit where you both put up a fight.
You gave us so many memories during the time
you were alive,
We really hoped that you two would thrive.

26 years…
26 years that we have proudly said your names,
Charlie and Joshua, never any nicknames.
When we found out it was twins we were delighted
to be having two,
And then when it was boys, -and ‘identical’,
it was a a dream came true.
