Baby Loss Awareness Week

At Footprints we came together in lots of different ways to remember and to talk about our twins and triplets during Baby Loss Awareness Week. We often hear and know from our own experiences that it can be a really heavy week for us as bereaved parents. With that in mind we thought really carefully ahead of BLAW about what events to include as well as what to share on our social media platforms.

During the week we held a number of in person and virtual events to try and ensure that there was something for everyone, including our London Remembrance Service, our virtual Flowers in the Lake, our two online group drop-in sessions, and most importantly, lots of support, chatting and sharing in our private Facebook group and across our WhatsApp groups. We also were so touched that Banbury parkrun supported us and encouraged everyone attending to wear pink and blue to raise awareness of baby loss.

Thank you to everyone who engaged, who supported, who looked out for each other, who raised awareness with family, friends, work, schools, in the news etc. We really hope that you found the week okay.

Baby Loss Awareness Week always finishes with the Wave of Light where families from all around the world are invited to light a candle at 7 pm, in their own time zone, to remember their baby or babies, creating a wave of light across the world. This year we held our second live wave of light where Sharon lit our Footprints candle, shared a few poems and read out our twins and triplets names. We were truly honoured to read out over 200 names but please know that our candle was lit for every baby.

We were pleased to have our charity shared by Cuddlecot throughout the week, to speak on Oxfordshire Greatest Hits radio and to see the Baby Loss and Maternity APPG debate taking place during the week this year.

We know that baby loss isn’t just about one week during the year so please do get in touch at any point if you would like some support – in the way of befriending, joining our online support groups, joining our private Facebook group or one of our small WhatsApp groups, by reading our many resources. Do look at website https://footprintsbabyloss.org, two all of our upcoming dates and different types of support that we offer.

If you are walking this path, please know you don’t have to walk it alone. Reach out, share your story or simply let us know you are here. Together we can hold space for each other and keep our babies’ memories alive with love.

Connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Linkedin, TikTok, to find comfort, join our community, read shared stories or offer a few words of comfort.
